I'm based in the US, and when I show up at the front desk, I am recognized as Diamond. I usually check in via the APP. IN Europe, it's a whole different story, lounges, incredible breakfast buffets either in lounges or restaurants, not so in the US.

As I wrote, you can make AA top Elite by just CC spend, and who makes out, CC companies. I think UA does it right, you still need to fly x segments on UA to make elite even with CC
