The same reason the airlines resist when we try to change or cancel agency tickets directly with the airline. The USA based carriers no longer pay a standard commission on domestic tickets, but they do pay on international fares, and they pay something on domestic tickets. The card issuer also likes to have information about our travel plans, both for security and marketing purposes.
