This isn't being enforced by every airline at the moment. I'm a dual US/UK citizen and I flew from the US to the UK on United last week with just my US passport and no ETA. I only entered my US passport information on the United website and at no point was I asked for my UK passport by United. I then entered the UK via the eGates with my US passport with no issues.
I also flew to the UK from the US about 2 months ago on BA and they never asked about an ETA. I checked in with my US passport and then once at LHR used the e-gates with my UK passport to enter.
So it looks like it very much depends on the airline.
