Datapoint: After selecting United Airlines as my preferred airline, I waited no more than 15 minutes before creating an account on UA's website and purchasing $50 in TravelBank funds. After the fact, I read that I should have waited at least one day after selecting the airline before purchasing from TravelBank. I guess I got lucky.
