Not sure what "counts back from the issue date" means. Your passport *has* been issued in the last 10 years (2016 was 9 years ago) and it is valid for more than 3 months. Just an agent invented "rule" IMO.
Those were my thoughts & I’m not suggesting anything malicious about it. As I said, owing to the timing my immediate thoughts were with losing the booking entirely & I didn’t really have to time to argue. I was pleasantly surprised when I was able to rebook via the SAS app; flight rebooked at 12:21, 34 mins before departure.
