Here's an update regarding purchasing the tickets (from the USA). I bought them on the Southeastern website - fine. I figured I might as well register, as I could then load the tix onto the app. It actually remembered me from a 2019 trip, so no registration required. I printed the tix (good thing) and then installed the app. It would not recognize my login. I then attempted to register directly on the app. On the country pulldown menu, scroll down from United Kingdom was inhibited. And that is likely the issue. I'll try again when I'm in the UK, as it would be handy to have the tix on the app, but at least I printed them with the QR code.
If you have the email of the tickets with the QR code, you can also use that on your phone to scan at the gates. I often do this when if I've forgotten to add the tix to Apple Wallet, as it tends to be quicker than finding them again in app. You just need to have the QR code sized up well enough to scan. No need for paper (although I know some people still like that for peace of mind...)
