It wasn't obvious to me until after the first time I needed it that most companies that send people on planes have their own policy for purchasing things under these circumstances that tend to have less of a quibble factor.
For example I could have bought a basic suit, shirt & tie etc for a business meeting if I travelled in civvies and the bag was not going to arrive in time.
It feel it's unlikely BA would pay the same without at least some pushback.
You can't claim for consequential losses from BA you would have to try getting that back from your travel insurance.
Again, for me on business travel the company just eats those sorts of losses as it works out cheaper overall than trying to claim for them.
I’d be inclined to go to BA first. People get stuff like ski rental and new ski clothes paid out without issue when things go wrong. I go an axe and crampons paid out last year. And even without buying top-end stuff, you’re still talking several hundred pound for ski gear. As for a suit, you can definitely get a made-to-order suit for a few hundred quid in Shanghai. But might take a couple of days. I’m are you could get something off the peg for a song.
