That was possibly me.

I am still trying to work out how to optimise the system for our family but I have come up with the following logic so far.

There are 8 people in our family sharing pool.

My wife and I are based in YYJ and always fly in paid J domestically and internationally with mixed cabin legs off and onto the Island.

SE only matters for us when we need the Concierge due to IRROPS (mostly in the winter) or Zone 1 on the Q400 with camera gear etc, which is roughly 50% of our legs.

My son, his wife and their two children fly using our family sharing pool points in Y domestically and fly TATL in paid PY every second year.

Our daughter and her husband live outside Canada and fly on other airlines domestically and regionally but fly in paid J on AC metal on TATL flights every second year.

I want to optimise our pool's AP points and our family's AC experience while maintaining SE for me and my wife.

The optimal strategy seems to be to collect bonus SQC, gift 50K status to our son and his wife, 35K status to our daughter and her husband and 25K status to our grandchildren.

My wife and I will be at around a 14,000 SQC head start once the new system stabilises.

We will each have around 115,000 SQC (excluding the so far mythical SQC bonuses) from flying in most years and 25,000 SQC each from credit card spending.

There may be some additional ad hoc SQC from photo safari trips every now and again like the trip that I have planned for 2026.

I don't think that we will travel enough to bank years of SE.

The new system renders banked years of SE far less valuable than they were in the past so it not an aspiration.

I completely understand why people who diligently banked SE years are very annoyed.

xMM has also been massively devalued and I can also completely understand why people who have relentlessly pursued xMM for years feel betrayed.

We are relatively new to AC /AP so xMM is not a realistic goal for us based on our remaining years of intensive travel as we are in our mid 60s.

So far, choosing bonus SQC, above all else when gifting status, is an option that seems to make the most sense to me.

The calculus would change significantly if AC / AP increased the number of eUp nominees from 1 to 2 that would let my wife and I try to eUp our son's entire family of four. They don't want to be be split across cabins which I respect even if I don't understand their logic.

In general, I am a huge fan of the new MB system. I lets me choose benefits that I want and eschew benefits that have little to no value to me. It also lets others make completely different decisions that suit them better than they would me.

Unless AC/AP increase the number of SE eUp nominees from 1 to 2, I still resent the automatic granting of eUps rather than alternative, optional MBs that have more value to my family than eUps.

200 expiring eUps with no alternative value feels a bit yucky, especially as so many others find them to be so valuable.
