the LA cuts are for different reasons than SFO - Alaska is temporarily losing six of their twelve gates starting in January for the rest of the year and had to slash.
Different excuses but the same dynamics are at play. AS feels they are better off in SAN/PDX/SEA than at SFO/LAX. If they were making loads of money on the LAX flights they are cutting, they could operate them from TBIT as AA does. Even B6 did that during the pandemic when they added flights. Given the delays in new plane deliveries and their reliance on the MAX-10 being available for future years---which leaves them vulnerable to further delays, LAX will be lucky to see any additional capacity in the near term. Better to set expectations now and recognize that AS's vision for SFO and LAX are very similar.
