Don't think UA has to do anything at this point. The mass exodus of bay area AS flyers is going to fall into their lap regardless. I have top tier status at most of the major airlines so I pick flights based on schedule. As someone based in CA and not in the PNW my Alaska flying will end up being just a couple segments out of 200+ ytd. That's way down from the 30 I used to average just a couple years ago. UA has become my main airline these days with DL a close second. AA and AS now barely register despite having the better FF program and alliance but neither seem to be able to run a decent operation that fits my travel needs.
