This is not a surprise at all! Many people knew Southwest needed to change and the leadership is correct. Southwest is doing what profitable airlines like United and Delta do now. It is funny to think how many people thought Southwest would perform worse. We will see Southwest perform much better now financially.

They were foregoing multiple $B in bag fees - money that virtually 100% goes straight to margin.
Assigned seats checks a biz traveler box, and is accretive.
And implementing those things were low hanging fruit.
they still don’t have premium seating, lounges, alliances, or seatback IFE. These are more cash intensive.
