I wonder how this will work. I am thinking this will not be an automatic conversion. I don't think Citi can automatically convert your Barclay card without your approval.
My thoughts:
1. When Feb 2026 comes, Citi could get names of people with Barclay cards, and simple send them an offer to get the closest equivalent Citi card. You choose if you want to accept. (Now how does Citi get the names? From AA or does Barclay sell the list to Citi? Is Barclay under any obligation to provide that list to Citi. Can AA legally give it to Citi? Maybe Citi doesn't get it at all - and there is no conversation. AA could simply advertise on the AA website about Citi cards like they do now.
2. Barclay could simply send you a notice that they will no longer be offering the AA card (and not even mention Citi), and then offer you a non-credit check conversion to one their other miles base CC - like JetBlue, Hawaiian, Frontier, Emirates, Lufthansa, or another Barclay.
I have all the Citi cards EX, Plat, Gold (sounds like status level - but that is the names of the cards). Mileup more or less replaces the Gold. But the Mileup is only one with 2x on groceries - which these days can earn lots of miles with the 2x. The Globe card is still appealing.
I do think Barclay will offer an incentive for you to keep one type of Barclay card.

Citi already announced that they bought the portfolio from Barclay. You'll be able to close your account if you don't want to keep it open at Citi, but otherwise it's going to move.
