This is not a surprise at all! Many people knew Southwest needed to change and the leadership is correct. Southwest is doing what profitable airlines like United and Delta do now. It is funny to think how many people thought Southwest would perform worse. We will see Southwest perform much better now financially. The intra CA flights I have been on lately with WN are packed!
It is one thing to copy successful businesses but how do these changes attract their rival’s customers and thus allow them to grow their customer base. Not to mention the growth will have to first cover any losses of existing customers before true net new revenue can be counted. WN may try to be like the others but make no mistake that they are starting this race in last position.
