Not entering your status details is a poor workaround as you miss out on other benefits (i.e., allocated seating the night before) and there is the added hassle of having to retrospectively claim TPs etc.
It is what it is when it comes to cabin baggage. It's in the name - cabin baggage. Anyone can bring it into the cabin if they pay or where they have status. If they don't have status and don't pay, the penalty is putting it in the hold. Putting a cabin bag in the hold is not a perk.

I agree, it's a poor work around - I'd never do it, but it would be a way to do it if people wanted to avoid the checked baggage fee. There'd be no other way to do it unless you have another suggestion?
