Who gets offered LMUs?
Pretty much anyone who's not confirmed in the highest cabin and without a eUpgrade pending a flight can be offered an LMU.

I have quite a lot of eUpgrades so I pretty much always have them applied on all my flights. I kept hearing about these LMU without ever being offered an upgrade during OLCI. The other day, I had a short flight (YYZ-DCA) booked on a cheap flight so the cost in eUpgrade was too high to justify and I didn't apply any to my reservation. Lo and behold, I was offered a LMU during OLCI.

Today I was checking on a flight YYZ-CLT with J2. I had an eUpgrade applied and was not offered LMU when I started the check-in process. For fun, I went to cancel my eUpgrade request and went back to the check-in flow and I was offered an LMU for $88 (which I accepted).

I know that you can always ask at the airport and I guess you can call in to know the price but is there a trick other than removing the eUpgrade to get offered LMU pricing?
Nope, the only trick I’ve found is asking at the airport/a Concierge.
