The whole point of status passengers being permitted to bring it on board for free is so they can waltz off the plane with their bag and head off into their private limousine transfer without having to wait 10, 20, 30 minutes or more at baggage claim. There is no option, because having to check the bag is the "penalty" for having the cheapest Saver fare, and thus you are "forced" to wait at baggage claim on arrival.
I think you trying to get out of paying a hold bag fee by attempting to work the system is pretty amusing

Not that I can talk as I'll take any loophole available - if I could get out of paying for seats, I'd be doing cartwheels - but your comment still amuses me no end that you can spin the free cabin bag given to status members as a negative

Ah here now, that's extremely unfair FlightDetective. I don't think I'm "spinning" anything, and all I said was that elites don't have the option to check a 10Kg bag for free instead of having to take it on board (the reason being the same as EI320 - I like to stuff a bottle of whiskey in my cabin bag sometimes).
I'd appreciate if you'd hold back from misrepresenting another poster's good faith comments about Aer Lingus's product features as being "trying to work the system" or dismiss them as funny (ie stupid). I've seen you do this before to other posters and I don't appreciate it - attack the ball and not the player.
And thanks to EI320 for pointing out the extremely obvious non-fraud or "working the system" reason why an AerClub passenger might sometimes want to check their cabin bag, since FlightDetective seemed to miss it.
