Yeah that was not an SDC - it was a flight change and you paid for the full fare difference from your ticket to the rate for F as if you were buying a new ticket.

SDC would've/should've been no fee into a flight with C+ available since you paid for that.
Comp upgrades do not carry over on SDC - you go back to your originally booked class.
