Do you have alternative plans in case your Delta flight to FCO arrives late for any reason (weather, mechanical, etc.)? Will return flights be cancelled if you do not fly FCO-VCE on ITA?
Since you are flying on two separate tickets, you are not "connecting" at FCO; you are taking two unconnected flights. If problems develop (I hope they don't), this difference in terminology may prove to be important.
