If they paid out for total loss under the Montreal convention, their liability has ended and they won’t ship it back to you. You could try to negotiate but it would very likely involve offering to pay them back first and even then they’ll probably say no.

Where are you? I’m not really sure how much couriers are but if you’re in the UK (or anywhere in Europe really) it may well be cheaper to go and collect it, or find someone to do that for you - chances are there’s someone in your extended circle who could! I’ll go if you pay for the flight.
