Lost bag resurfaced a year later, now sitting at a hostel in BCN. What should I do?

About a year ago, I lost a suitcase while flying on a British Airways ticket. I was rerouted with two stops, including BCN (Barcelona). The bag never made it to my final destination. (it should have been transferred automatically but vanished somewhere along the way.)

Fast forward to now: I just got a call from a secretary at a hostel in Barcelona saying they have my suitcase. They even sent me a photo, and it’s definitely mine. All my stuff is still inside!

I have no idea how it ended up there, but I’d really like to get it back.

Does anyone know how to handle this kind of situation?
  • Does British Airways or Iberia still step in to retrieve or forward it after all this time?
  • Or do I need to arrange my own courier/shipping from the hostel? in BCN to NY (or Israel?)
Has anyone here dealt with a case like this, a bag found way after it went missing? How do I get it back?

Thank you!
