Missed Connection Due to Poor Delay Communication – Any Grounds for Compensation?

Today I had a frustrating experience on a Business Flex itinerary:
ZRH (KLM) – AMS (SK) – CPH (SK) – EWR

AMS was experiencing severe winds, causing widespread delays. The inbound flight from CPH was held on the ground for an extended period and ultimately arrived after the scheduled departure time back to CPH. However, SK never showed a delay for the AMS–CPH leg — neither in their app nor on the FIDS — even after the scheduled departure time had passed.

Realizing I would likely misconnect in CPH, I proactively tried to rebook via the KLM service desk in AMS and the SK hotline. Unfortunately, since the AMS–CPH flight wasn’t officially marked as delayed, no rebooking options were available, despite multiple viable alternatives out of AMS (I would have accepted rerouting to JFK or via CDG, ATL — all of which would have gotten me to EWR with less than a 3-hour delay).

As expected, I missed my connection in CPH and will now fly to EWR tomorrow, missing almost a full business day.

While I fully understand that weather-related delays are excluded from EU261 compensation, I did everything I could to help the airlines get me to EWR on time. The lack of accurate delay reporting prevented any proactive rerouting, which feels like a failure in operational communication.

On a positive note: once the misconnect was confirmed, SK did a solid job offering rebooking options — even on BA, LH, and UA. However, only economy seats were left, and I couldn’t see myself doing a long-haul in Y today.
My question to the community:

Do I have any grounds for compensation due to the failure to communicate the delay, which directly impacted my ability to rebook and avoid the overnight delay?

Would appreciate any insights or similar experiences.
I have had similar experiences on Lufthansa, the flight from CPH was not shown as delayed until the arriving aircraft was well in the air from Munich, despite the fact that it should have landed in Copenhagen before they even got it in the air from Munich.
When I spoke to Lufthansa, a flat refusal to rebook. "Your flight is not marked as delayed" "Maybe they will shift to another aircraft" "They can turn the plane around very quickly".
No comp or apology for the lack of communication and practical planning.
