The current A321T has 10 F, 20 J and no PE. Thee replacement is configured with 20J and 12 OE. So the number of premium seats is decreasing from 30 to 20. Yes, one can argue that PE seats are about the same as other domestic J/F but even then it is 32 seats vs. 30 and essentially no MCE. I do not see what all the excitement is about.
Personally, it isn't about transcon. I never flew Jfk to Lax, and doubt I ever will. I'd fly over my house halfway along the journey. So, as replacements for the 321Ts, it is a moot point of comparison for most of us riffraff in flyover country. And no offense, but I don't have much sympathy for jfk lax flyers who were served by such an premium heavy product as the 321T, and will continue to be served by what is still a premium heavy domestic configuration.
It is about direct US to secondary Europe flights, with enough premium cabin to make swu usage or decent mileage J tickets at least possible. I dont like LHR transfers and this plane should enable some options.
