In both cases it's overnight to JNB again, so going to sleep pretty quickly will be the priority rather than sampling the food. We've been on the SWISS A340 recently and it was good, so I am tempted by that, but the novelty of taking one of the few remaining opportunities to fly on a 747 is also appealing. On LH we'd take a middle pair on the bottom deck, while I seem to remember there are more options on the A340.
Any opinions, or given it's a night flight is there little difference?
Finally, do both LH and Swiss have bid for upgrades (to first), or is that just a SWISS thing?

When there are two people traveling, the UD on LH is a good alternative. But the ease of connecting may also play a role, ZRH over FRA in that aspect.
I would tend to LX especially if you can grab a pair of seats in the mini cabin (4DG or 5AB).
Bids for upgrades in both, though in my (anecdotal/personal) experience F on LH fills up faster than on LH on the JNB route.
