Glad you got it sorted. Did they say what their issue was with the LHR-MAD leg? Taxes sound about right to me.
If you have baggage, it might be worth considering a cash fare or a BA flight. I have just had to shell out for baggage on an IB Y redemption via BAC, as now they are HBO (caught me out the other week).
