Just resurrecting this thread: are there any more opinions about which of these two options might be better? There will be two of us: we have no status, and we won't have a tight connection to worry about.

In both cases it's overnight to JNB again, so going to sleep pretty quickly will be the priority rather than sampling the food. We've been on the SWISS A340 recently and it was good, so I am tempted by that, but the novelty of taking one of the few remaining opportunities to fly on a 747 is also appealing. On LH we'd take a middle pair on the bottom deck, while I seem to remember there are more options on the A340.

Any opinions, or given it's a night flight is there little difference?

Finally, do both LH and Swiss have bid for upgrades (to first), or is that just a SWISS thing?
