Used two 50K AA awards to book Premium Economy seats from ORD-HND on a JAL flight on Nov 4th. I was hoping to rebook to Business Class if seats became available for 60K, but that is unlikely to happen given it is still high tourist season in Japan. There was plenty of 60K business availability in the summer if checked within a one to two weeks prior to departure - but nothing these days - except one that I saw for next day travel. So a few questions about my AA Platinum elite benefits on JAL flights.

Will I get a complimentary upgrade to Business if JAL seats are available at the last minute? Is this automatically requested like on AA flights or can I call JAL customer service and make a request?

I can pull up my JAL flight from ORD-HND using the JAL confirmation # provided in my AA itinerary. However, it is NOT linked to the JAL mileage account that I recently established. Can I call JAL customer service and have the trip added to my JAL mileage acct?

JAL website says that they will auction off business class seats prior to the flight for cash? Am I correct that the only way I will have access to and be notified of such auctions of biz seats is if the trip is linked to my JAL mileage account? Or will I notified anyway since I have a booked JAL flight?

Any experience or data points on $$ value of successful bids for other JAL flight to Japan?

Does JAL offer cash options to purchase biz seats in advance of my Nov 4 flight similar to what the AA offers for its booked flights? I did pay $1500 each for our return award flight from HND from Premium Economy to Biz seats - not too bad.

Last question: Looking to travel to SE Asia next fall since my daughter moved to Japan recently and will be working there for 3 years. I can book a JAL business ticket from ORD-NRT-Jakarta Indonesia for $3100 for late Aug 2026. Is this a good price - as other options were $5000+?
