In follow up to my post last week concerning FTers experience at the Embassy Suites in Burlingame near SFO, here is a quick report on my experiences:
I picked up the shuttle at SFO; the trip was fast and the driver helped put the luggage in the van. Note: ES, DT and Redroof Inn all share the same shuttle, which makes sense since they are all across the road from one another. The ride took about 10 minutes with traffic. Be sure not to board the shuttle for ES South San Francisco. If you drive your own, there is plenty of free parking.
Check in was easy, and I was placed on the HH floor. At this property, I believe 7-9 are all HH floors. The room was standard ES fare with the standard room amenities. The HH amenity was a snack pack of cookies and 2 waters. About 5 minutes after I arrived at my room, someone from the front desk arrrived to offer 2 additional bottles and make sure I was OK with the room.
The property has an indoor pool with two whirlpools. The exercise room is attached to the pool area; there are stair steppers and treadmills - no weights. The San Francisco Bay Trail runs next to the property along the Bay - I ran on it and it was very nice. There are public bathrroms at intervals for pit stops, and lots of dogs to pet (I start missing my pups early and need my fix!).
The Happy Hour was nice and well attended. The bar had local bottles of CA wine, and the beer on tap included a local microbrew. I did not try the restaurant on the property; rather, I ate a very nice meal at Kincaids, which is located about 2-3 blocks south. Danny at the front desk gave me a ride to Kincaids in the ES van (it was raining), and I walked back. Walking home in the dark was not a problem for me (I'm 6' 4" 220# and federal law enforcement), but the ladies may find it more prudent to call ES and ask for a ride back. Danny even offered to pick me up anytime I wanted to come back if it was still raining. If you plan on eating at Kincaids, I suggest visiting their website (
www.kincaids.com) and signing up for their frequent diner program - they email you a coupon for $20.00 off your first meal, with no restrictions.
The breakfast was standard, and by that I mean pleantiful, fresh and easy. I agree with other posters, the eating area is a little dark. However, there are a number of tables that are well lit and where one can easily read the morning news.
One thing other posters failed to note is that there is a golf driving range across the street, behind the DT. If it had not been raining, I would have hit a bucket of balls with a rental club.
As I had business in downtown SF the next day, I took the shuttle back to SFO, had the driver drop me off at the international terminal, and walked directly into the BART station for my $4.95 ride to the Civic Center stop, which is about 3 blocks from the federal courthouse.
If you are a federal traveller, be sure to ask for the tax exempt form to avoid paying $13.25 in nightly taxes.
Overall, a nice property that was perfect for a qucik one night stay. If I had to stay more than one night in the area, I would probably stay at the SF HIlton downtown due to its location and full gym.
