Check in timing to maximise upgrade potential

Good morning,

Hope you are having a wonderful week.

I am on a long-haul flight that shows all fare classes zeroed out on expertflyer, from first to economy. I am gold, currently in Club on the outbound and first on the way back. Not long before check in, seat map shows 1A and 1K not taken in first, two spare seats in Club and a rather full WT+ seat map. I would v much like to upgrade, and I am happy to pay a sensible price either by way of limited time offer or airport upgrade. BA seems not to be selling any seats on this route for north of a week (!) in any class, which I thought was rather unusual—but, then again, I am v ignorant and it could be completely normal.

My question, other than being curious about how normal having completely zeroed out planes and no seats for a week is, is whether I should check in at T-24 or wait. I plan to arrive v early to the airport, so I wouldn’t mind waiting to check in then—it would not be the end of the world if I was pushed out of the flight until the next day or had to take an alternative route, which are still on offer, so not too bother about the risk that a late check-in could bring so long as I get to fly within the next 24ish hours, although the v full week ahead is a bit concerning. Does checking in mean I will stop any chance of getting limited-time offers and/or increase the chance of op-up? Does it not really matter?

Many thanks in advance,

ii
