Makes sense. I can tell sometimes when the front desk clerk reads from a script on the Amex FHR terms that they deal with it maybe a few times per day. Maybe they notice that they are required to have an Amex card at check-in. Maybe they don't notice that. And maybe their machine tells them to reject a non-Amex card. Any number of possibilities that Amex does not directly control.
