From personal experience, especially renting from DEN and driving up/down the mtns (I-70 to Frisco, Vail and onwards), none of the rental car companies (and I've basically used all of them in DEN) that I've rented through over the past 2+ decades have proper snow/winter tires, and even 4WD SUVs that I've rented couldn't cope in a snowstorm (on all season tires) up in the mtns.
