Thanks for the help, everyone. We are settled. Booked the BA297 through ORD to finally hit DFW at nearly midnight. I sure hope BA still awards the proper tier points!

I still don't understand why they bring back the service to DFW, then don't have it for a few days. I guess nothing with BA ever makes much sense.
