LGB and BUR are about point to point demand in the LA market for Hawaii, nobody is doing PDX/SEA/whatever-BUR-HNL unless they're trying to save a buck and willing to accept a weird connection (and AS frankly doesn't really want them as customers anyway, if demand is poor enough on BUR-HNL that they have to accept a ton of connecting traffic they'll 86 the route soon enough).

Being able to bulk up BUR is just another way of trying to get bits and pieces of the CA market bit by bit, piece by piece.
It's also a pre-emptive move against WN who won't be able to start BUR-Hawaii until the new terminal opens. While they can fit an 800/Max-8 into A8 or A9, they chose to keep Burbank an all 700 station.
