I've found it pretty easy to go over 50 lbs for longer trips or ones with equipment (e.g. skiing). Not to 70, but 54-56 lbs. It's a nice cushion to have.

And then there was the trip we took our child to college . . . I'll say that it was a lot cheaper than shipping everything.
