I'll be in Jomtien soon and want to visit Udon Thani for several nights this November. I found some cheap fares to UTH from UTP and will probably give it a go. I think it's only one flight a week on Thai Lion Air (never flown with them), but I'm flexible and want to give it a try. Certainly cheap, like USD $31 one-way. Getting back could be problematic, but I may take the slow route back by train and visit some cities along the way like Khon Kaen and Korat. Then return to Jomtien as I usually do from Bangkok. Or I could fly back to DMK or BKK; I'm sure there are plenty of flights and it must be cheap.
Incidentally, any of you been to "Coffee War" in Chon Buri province? I enjoyed it: two old planes that have been converted into coffee shops, with an army surplus shop on site. While I'm sure it's not the only one of its kind, it's the first one I've ever been to in Thailand. Pattaya itself has two decommissioned planes, but they're just for show IIRC. Don't think you can enter them. One's at Terminal 21 and the other is at a market.
