Well that Intercontinental is not a hotel where you would like to stay for a few days, but it is conveniently located at the airport - so in order to rest a day/night after your flight to South Africa before getting a rental car or to end a South Africa trip before the return flight it is perfect. I remember about 10 years ago I stayed one night waiting for my friend to arrive the next day to start a self-drive safari through Botswana and Zimbabwe.

This time I had a 6 hour transit coming from Sao Paulo with an onward flight to Istanbul. The online boarding pass for JNB-IST-SYD could not be created so I could not stay in transit but had to wait until the checkin opens lanside. What to do in the meantime - yes, walk across the street from the arrival hall and ask if they offer a day room to have a shower and a little rest in a comfy bed.
They had availability for my timeframe - and while it was not on the cheap side - 5 hours for 200€ (a single night would have been 380€) - I don't regret the invest. The hotel interieur is modern with an African touch - but without being kitchy. on several corners they have silver statues of African animals, porters wear a local straw hat. Everyone is smiling and radiating joy like I have never seen in any other hotel. That's true African hospitality that puts a smile on your face.

I got an upgrade to a "Premium room" which is at the same time marketed as "Junior Suite". The decor is also modern, stylish with African touch. Instead of a foldable rack for the suitcase there is a huge dark brown chest like all those African explorers had when they went on their expeditions as I could imagine. The bathroom was huge with a bath tub, extra shower and a toilet (in its own tiny space). In the entrance area there was a decanter bottle with Sherry and two glasses - complimentary for the guests.

They have a restaurant named "Quills" - the decoration consists of mobiles of porcupine qulls hanging from the ceiling. https://www.southernsun.com/intercon.../dining/quills

Due to the short stay I didn't checkout other hotel amenities like the swimming pool or the fitness studio or the spa.

To answer the question from the last post - they have Byredo products in the bathroom.

Will post photos later.
