Next in line is Hyatt Regency Kyoto. As my family has too many food allergies to list, HR Kyoto accommodates us exceptionally well.
Hyatt Regency has always gone the extra mile for us.
Hyatt Place Kyoto is perfectly OK, but you only get what you pay for.
Thank you for sharing your thoughts on this. Mine will be a points stay, and part of me is tempted to do the Hyatt Place and just save the points, while another part of me wants to YOLO and go for the Park Hyatt. Now I just need to gauge whether the points difference matters that much to me - I don't accrue them quickly, so a difference of 140k+ points is compelling.

They're not bad by any measure but they are not glamorous. The Park Hyatt is of course much nicer, but at 5-10x the cost and in the center of the tourist crowds it does have its issues. Haven't stayed at Hyatt Place but ultimately it's a....Hyatt Place
Appreciate the input. Sadly, I have no status to speak of, so upgrades, breakfast, etc. aren't a consideration. I didn't realize the rooms at the Hyatt Regency hadn't been updated in a while. We will be traveling in winter when the days are short and we'll be spending long evening in the hotel, so a nice, spacious (for Japan) room to relax in is a high priority. It's sounding like we may be choosing between HP and PH, and it's the difference in points cost that is making me indecisive. The Park Hyatt location and the crowds in the area are off-putting, but the property itself is a wow for me, it would likely be the nicest hotel I will ever experience.
