Applied for first Citi card a couple weeks ago and denied. This is the first time it’s happened when applying for a new card. Called and they said the letter. Received that and it said something along the line of insufficient credit history. Called Equifax and they said nothing is seen negative (my score is 814, not a single late payment in life, nearly 20 years of credit). Was able to talk with reconsideration line yesterday and agent said she was supervisor and unable to overturn decision because of lack of history. I explained I don’t carry a balance so as to avoid interest and refused to budge.
didn’t have the most positive view of citi since living in the City before and this just reaffirmed it. Anyone else have issues getting approved?
insufficient credit history has nothing to do with not carrying a balance. it refers to your history with credits, be it credit cards or loans. this cant be true if you have 20 years of credit. i would call recon again and tell them that, but be prepared to still be rejected
fwiw, my wife and i were approved for citi with very short credit history (2-3 years). but we do have bank accounts with them and it was for a more entry level card. we have also never carried a balance as well
