Presumably they have been doing cardiovascular risk assessments on all of their pilots for decades, they will have data on the number of cardiac events over the follow-up period, so it's an extremely large dataset they'd have over a considerable time period. Sure CV risk assessment has likely improved in the last 10 y...about 5 y ago the CAA changed their risk calculator to the PREDICT tool, which is generally more accurate. Here is some NZ-specific data (albeit 10-15y old) that reiterates the poor sensitivity of CV risk assessment in pilots https://doi.org/10.3357/asem.3222.2012

A report from a quick google:

Thanks for the links, I can take a squiz through those when I have time.

I’m realistically not putting my hand up for extra unpaid work that’s not related to what I do and I don’t really have any intentions of doing extra courses. But, you know that saying it’s who you know not what you know. I can work that. There’s that saying about everyone being connected by 6 degrees of separation, but I think in NZ it’s probably more like 1 or 2 degrees. NZ’s tiny. And I know some good people. Take them out to lunch pick their brains and if i have time to be geeky put together a bit of context and fire them questions so they know what we’ll be discussing.

Ideally you just get smart people from each of those 3 areas then lock them in a room together and nut it out. But everyone’s got their own lives, schedules etc so that would be hard to organise but.. that’s getting ahead of things. Anyway it’s certainly not impossible. Can already think of a few people that might know other people etc…

However I am a bit interested and know a few people so it’s likely I will make some enquiries and will start off with them on the individual level…. Before I lock them in a room together 😂

None of this is happening in the near future. I have 3 trips next week and a lot of other things going on and there’s only so many hours in a day. But I’ll check the links out when I have time. Thanks.
