Power banks

Power Banks (also referred to as external batteries, battery packs, portable chargers, pocket chargers, power stations, etc.)
  • Only one power bank is allowed per passenger.
  • The watt-hour (Wh) rating must be 100 Wh or less and must be clearly marked (labelled, embossed or printed) on the device.
  • Use of power banks on board is strictly prohibited. This includes charging devices or charging the power bank itself using aircraft power sockets.
  • The power bank must be switched off and protected from short-circuit and unintentional activation, e.g. kept in original retail packaging or a protective pouch/case.

Power banks over 100 Wh are not permitted.

Regardless of the brand name or terminology used - power bank, portable charger, battery pack, pocket charger, or power station - if the device’s primary function is to provide portable power, these rules apply.

Non-adherence to the above requirements and restrictions may result in denial of carriage.

Safety recommendations for power banks:
  • Always keep the power bank easily accessible.
  • Economy cabin: Place it a cabin bag under the seat, or in the seat pocket in front of you.
  • First and Business cabin: Place it in the seat’s storage compartment.
  • Avoid storing it in the overhead locker, where crew may not be able to reach it quickly in an emergency
