Civil Aviation Regulators are required to apply safety management principles to the pilot medical assessment process, evaluate data on areas of increased health risk, and implement appropriate health promotion for pilots to reduce future medical risks to flight safety, as outlined in the International Civil Aviation Organization's Annex 1.46

Based on present findings, we advocate aviation health and occupational safety professionals and researchers to further examine targeted, cost‐effective intervention methods for promoting healthy bodyweight, managing blood pressure and enhancing health behaviours to mitigate risks of occupational morbidity, medical conditions causing loss of license, medical incapacity, and to support flight safety.
