Hi,

good location for the eastern end of the royal mile ( 1 mile or so to Edinburgh Castle though it is uphill and there are quite a few tourist tat shops though architecture is beautiful ), Holyrood palace and Scottish parliament as well as Holyrood Park and arthur's seat.
Eastern part of Princes street and St James's quarter ( nice shopping centre ) probably 3/4 of a mile as well as Waverley Railway station

There is also the W hotel by St James's quarter
