Tipping point where you would drive instead of fly

I work in central NJ and have a task to complete in Liverpool NY. From the door of my office to the door of the client it's 247 miles and about 4.5 hours of continuous driving. However, my boss is genuinely perplexed that I'm not flying.

I've checked it out and there are direct flights from EWR to SYR that are scheduled to take 1 hour 20 minutes each way, but when I add on 30 minutes to get to the airport, arriving at the airport an hour ahead of the flight, 20 minutes from landing to exiting the airport and 20 minutes to get to the client site my journey will have taken 3.5 hours. Add to that the fact I can depart at my leisure in the car, take an extra person at no extra cost, my own personal space in the vehicle, and the fuel costs half the plane ticket, and this becomes a no-brainer for me.

I'm interested to know who the collective FT hive mind agrees with...
