I can't answer your question about upgrades, but on the alcohol question I can say that the alcohol selection at the Diamond Premier lounge has improved in the last year or so. They now have a small selection of wines including sparkling wine, in addition to beer, sake, whisky, and gin. I don't think any of the brands are particularly expensive or famous, but I don't know much about alcohol brands. And in a domestic lounge I don't expect much and am just happy to drink whatever is on offer.
