Just to provide some closure as some people seemed interested.
The flight (BA252 12 Oct) eventually flew approximately 36 hours late.
There were lots of empty seats, so it looks like many of the original pax were booked onto alternative flights / routings. We were happy for a short break in the Bahamas so made no effort to request or find an alternative.
As for the catering, only snacks (crisps, biscuits etc) were available on board.
The BA-provided hotel (not bad to be honest) was unable to provide any packed food to take on board at all and to visit a supermarket would have involved a taxi ride.
Some food was indeed available from outlets in the terminal (which is what we bought) but the level of demand meant that was a 45 minute process.
So overall, not worth a traditional FT ‘Worst airline EVER!!!! Never flying BA again!!!!’ rant, but really not great at all.
Obviously the appropriate compensation claim is in progress.

Thank you for your help.
