some airlines, yes, but AA makes it very clear the booking code, in the details of the flight section by class (prior to purchase), as well as in the purchase email.
average customers dont really care about miles minting, never mind crediting across different airlines.
OP stated clearly he knew exactly what the booking code (I) was.
