I had a scheduled 11:44 AM Avro flight from FNT-DTW that was initially pushed back to 12 Noon - love that NWA text message option for my cell. I arrived at FNT and waited at Gate 2 until well past that time. I believe we didn't begin boarding until about 1:00 PM as the inbound AC was late from DTW. Lack of available/rested crews was the explanation.

Not much of an issue, for me anyway. Saw lots of nervious pax inquiring about connections and one business-type start to go off on the GA about missing his connection (and, I assume, his confirmed UG). Since I was on my way to ORF I knew my alternate 5:00 PM DTW-ORF was still scheduled so I wasn't overly concerned. Ofter the aforementioned pax's tirade was over, I casually approached the GA. Our conversation went something like this.

DMitzel: "So, I heard the bad news. Would you be able to reaccomodate me on a later connection?"

FNT GA: "Sure, let me see you BP. (some typing occurs) Sure, I've got you backed-up in FC on the 5:12 PM Norfolk flight."

DMitzel: "Thank you very much for taking care of me."

While I spent a extra two hours in DTW - a bonus as far as I'm concerned as I had time for dinner - IMO NWA took as good care of the situation as they were able to. I kept my UG on the DTW-ORF segment and arrived safely at my destination. Also, keeping positive and pleasant about the situation goes much farther than not.

Weird thing was, we pushed back with 1 pax in FC (Me!) and 32 in economy. Light load for an Avro and almost Twilight Zone-ish sitting up their all by myself. It appears that all of the other elites elected to drive down to DTW to connect rather than wait. Funny thing is, I believe we likely beat them down there by air considering the weather, traffic and road conditions.

Oh, well...

BTW, I did receive my pre-departure drink this time! ^
