Cannot check-in online on award booking

Everything is probably fine but I am a worry wort Just want to see if others had similar experience or insight to share.

I am flying from SCQ-DUB, 21 hour layover in DUB, then DUB-LAX all on one award ticket tomorrow. Booked with Alaska points.

I had wanted to buy seats to ensure me and my husband can sit together but unfortunately just didn't get to do it before my trip started. (Wasn't able to reach anyone other than a bot on Whatsapp, probably should have stayed up late one night and called but was busy wrapping up work and house stuff before my trip). When I called them yesterday they said since departure is within 72 hours they are not be able to see seat availability on a flight.

Anyway, my flight from SCQ-DUB is leaving in less than 24 hours. When I go to check-in online, the website indicates I cannot check-in yet. It says I am only allowed to check-in 24 hours _before_ the beginning of my second leg DUB-LAX. That means that I can check-in online 30 min before my first flight leaves from SCQ.

When I just rang them up and asked if they can help me check-in, they said I have to do it at the airport. The agent said check-in counter at Santiago de Compostela airport had to do additional security check on me and husband. It sounds iffy. I've flown from Spain many times before and this has never happened. The agent said everything looked good on her end but that the airport would need to sort everything out for me.

I also couldn't add our EI frequent flyer numbers, or add our passport info. The web form keeps erroring out when I click Submit.

I am going to guess that this is all IT issue and that I will be able to fly after all. We may not be able to travel together and be stuck with middle seats, but we will manage.

But, I am getting nervous if we can get on the plane at all. Not being able to buy seats, get assigned seats, check-in online, or add my passport info even when prompted all seem like signs that things may not bode well for me tomorrow at SCQ.

The US government shutdown is on the forefront of my mind if I can be honest (which is not the fault of EI at all).

tldr: On EI, is it normal to not be able to check in 24 hours before the first leg of the flight, but only at 24 hours before the second leg?
