Sounds like a completely untrained crew who should not be working in a premium cabin. I would write this in, it's unacceptable.
The problem is that letting UA know does not do anything and that is if even a real pair of eyes see it.
My wife and I flew back MUC-IAD and the food was fine, LH would have been better, but UA won out on price, so that is what we went with.
