Finally getting around to posting my photos from staying on opening night and the night after. The photos do not really do the pool or pool view justice.

Booked 1 night stay using points for a King Essential Sunrise Sea View. For some reason I was denied any upgrade despite all higher categories being wide open. Was however given a spacious room on 41st floor looking across the harbour towards the old airport.

Extended our stay the next morning by booking a second night with points. When I went to lobby to renew keys I gently asked if an upgrade was available for the new night and after some discussion was given a 1 King Central Harbour view room on the 21st floor.

TLDR; we actually preferred the non upgraded room despite it being several categories lower and $90usd a night cheaper. The higher floor and sweeping harbour and Kowloon views was brighter and more impressive to us than the much lower down and darker view of a small part of Hong Kong island's skyline. You cant tell from the photos but it was also more overlooked by other buildings nearby. If it was my first time to Hong Kong, maybe I would feel differently. Also - not obvious from my photos but - the non upgraded room was slightly bigger and had a better layout.

Kimpton social hour was in lobby bar from 5pm to 6pm and included (decent) wine and canapes, and a mocktail.

Staff were very friendly and hotel overall was great.
