When planning my last trip, I spent quite a bit of time hesitating between this hotel, more central options like the Swissôtel or INK, and more economical ones such as Tribe or the Mercure Noord. I ultimately chose this one after Goldorak confirmed in this thread that it has an executive lounge, so I feel somewhat obligated to do a little follow-up myself.
I have absolutely no regrets about that decision.
With my Platinum membership, I was upgraded from a Superior room to an Executive room on the 19th floor (first time I’ve ever received an actual room class upgrade with ALL in Europe...). As jamestkirk mentioned, the décor isn’t particularly distinctive, but the views are absolutely stunning. I’ve traveled my fair share, and it’s rare that I’ve enjoyed a hotel view as much as this one. I will choose a "View" room to guarantee that next time.
As for the lounge, happy hour is now held there and not at the bar. They offer a good selection of quality wines and Heineken (both alcoholic and non-alcoholic). The staff are extremely attentive and proactively offer fried appetizers like bitterballen, croquettes, shrimp, etc. with the drinks. Coffee and soft drinks are available all day.
Out of curiosity, I took a look at the spread of the (paid) breakfast buffet at the restaurant and it looked pretty great. In the morning, the lounge offers a small spread of pastries, cereals, and fruit, as in the previously posted photo, but also sparkling wine if you’d like to make yourself a mimosa. We never pay for breakfast with our reservations since we eat very little in the morning (the large spread of the buffet would be very much wasted on us), and the lounge turned out to be a perfect middle ground: great coffee (much better than the in-room capsules) and some light snacks if we felt like it.
